About Me.

Hello, I’m Anita Ollár—I am a trained architect with a Master’s degree in Architecture and Planning for Sustainable Development, and a PhD in Circular and Sustainable Architecture. I speak fluent English and Swedish, and I’m happy to connect with you in any of these languages.

Since 2018, I have been working on a range of architectural and renovation projects, focusing on interior transformations in small houses, apartments, and villas. These projects allowed me to translate design theory into practice, deepen my professional experience, and sharpen my problem-solving and organizational skills. I’ve been involved in every stage of the renovation process from demolishing interiors to designing and rebuilding functional, aesthetically coherent spaces. My responsibilities have included concept development, technical drawings, material selection, contractor hiring, budget management, and on-site coordination. Driven by a strong commitment to sustainability, I consistently prioritized sourcing reclaimed, repurposed or upcycled building materials and furniture. This approach not only reduced environmental impact but also added character and authenticity to each project.

I also have eight years of experience in research and teaching, focusing on sustainable development and circular design. I have experience in both qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection and analysis, with a particular preference for qualitative approaches that prioritize engagement with participants and co-creation of meaningful, context-specific solutions. My research has used participatory methods to promote knowledge development and co-create design solutions in collaboration with industry partners and the public. I have also taught courses focused on participatory approaches, equipping students with the skills to develop resilient, culturally sensitive and innovative design strategies. Both my research and teaching have primarily focused on the housing context, with an emphasis on creating value with and for the users of living spaces.

Building Site Supervision

Renovating or rebuilding a home is one of the most significant investments a person makes. My role is to make that experience rewarding by helping homeowners unlock the full potential of their property through a thoughtful co-design approach. The process doesn’t begin with drawings provided by an architect. It begins with understanding the home and the daily habits of the people who live there. Homeowners play a central role in this discovery phase, and together we collaborate to shape a design that reflects their routines, preferences, and aspirations. With a strong emphasis on both functionality and aesthetics, I guide clients from the initial exploration of their needs and preferences to the development of a cohesive design concept. My services also include producing official drawing documentation for permit applications, coordinating with contractors, monitoring budgets, and supervising work on site ensuring a smooth and well-executed transformation from start to finish.

My research practice explores how architecture intersects with everyday life, cultural narratives, and spatial design. I use design as a method of inquiry, allowing spatial experimentation to generate new insights and questions. Much of my work involves field-based studies, interdisciplinary collaboration, and critical reflection on the role of architecture in shaping lived experiences. I contribute to academic discourse through writing, publishing, and presenting at conferences, while also developing research projects that connect theory with practice. Ultimately, my research aims to deepen our understanding of the built environment and its potential to support more thoughtful, inclusive, and sustainable ways of living.

In addition to research, I actively contribute to education through tutoring, lecturing, and leading seminars and workshops. My teaching focuses on sustainable and circular approaches to residential design, encouraging students and professionals to rethink how homes are built, used, and adapted over time. I create learning environments that foster critical dialogue, hands-on experimentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Whether in academic settings or public forums, I aim to equip participants with the tools and perspectives needed to design more resilient and resource-conscious living spaces. This educational work complements my research by translating theory into practice and inspiring new ways of engaging with the built environment.
